Today’s logo is for a company called Baths by RJ. They specialize in high end bathroom remodeling projects. They are very proud of their work and from what I’ve seen they should be. The logo they are currently using is actually not that bad. My main objection is the use of the typeface Brushscript. Another observation is that the initials RJ always appear larger and most prominent in the logo. This means that they are not branding bathroom remodeling but they are branding themselves (the owners). Here is their current logo as it appears on their website.
Today I decided to give their logo a face lift. Based on my previous observations I chose to make prominent the fact that they remodel bathrooms, not the owners of the company (RJ). I made the word BATHS the most prominent element in the logo by making it larger and using all capital letters. I also gave it the most contrast by setting it in black. I set the words by RJ smaller and used different colors to minimize their prominence as if it were a true artist’s signature. I assume R and J consider their work elegant and artistic. I also know that the owners like the deep red color that I used to set their initials so that red is a default color in the logo.
The inclusion of the circles is to add graphical interest and balance to the composition. Circles were chosen because of their soft and, in this case, feminine quality. First the owners are women and second most home interior remodeling such as kitchens and bathrooms will be done under the guidance and budget oversight of a woman. The choice of typography was an effort to create a vintage, mid-century look. I assume the owners appreciate this image because they currently use the typeface Brushscript. I just happen to feel that Brushscript should be taken lightly and used with caution in most cases. That’s it.
