Well I feel that I have redeemed myself today. I really have not liked the previous two Woodside logos but this one pleases me quite a bit. I feel that it captures the feeling of The Woodside Deli very well. It is warm and pleasant. As I mentioned previously the the walls are covered with early to mid 20th century photos, posters and advertisements. I feel this logo captures that vintage sensibility while still appearing current and relevant.
For color I chose a deep red with brown accents. I feel that These colors convey the preferences of Woodside Deli’s owner, staff and patrons. Many of their current promotional pieces use a similar color scheme. The ornamental wavy lines are primarily a lighter shade of brown which reminds me of the sephia tone of an antique photograph.
The Typography I chose is Americana Extra Bold. This was one of my favorite typefaces many years ago and I was recently reminded of how much I liked it during a visit to the the University of Central Florida last week. I was impressed with how effectively it was utilized on virtually all of their campus signage as well as other printed materials throughout their facilities. Here I think the typeface works well to represent a relevant, contemporary brand but also successfully captures a classic and vintage feeling to the viewer at the same time. Well that’s it. I hope you like it!
