Daily Design #280. This is my personal logo as it appeared about 10 years ago. I am off tomorrow and I am gearing up to redesign my website. I might be able to get this task completed in one day but please don’t be surprised if my website doesn’t change for a few days. 🙂 I have no new design ideas in mind at this time but I was thinking earlier that I need to revitalize my personal logo and go from there.
The logo you see posted here today was created digitally in 1999. But this logo for the most part was originally design back in the early 1980’s sometime. I want to say 1984 but who knows it could have been earlier. It started as a signature for any artwork I created as a youngster. Usually if I drew or painted something I would scratch my name in all caps and then scratch an S and C overlapping, framed within a diamond shape. It just happened that way, out of no where. It was not thought through. The logo was not conceptualized, there was no underlying meaning or symbolism.
Over time, the the chicken scratch that was my signature became my personal logo. In the late 1990’s when I entertained the thought of doing freelance design work I recreated the logo in Adobe Illustrator and began using it along side my name on business cards, fax cover sheet, letter head and website. In 2003 I stopped using the logo. But if you look at my website you will see that the diamond shape is still used as a background element in the top banner. Tomorrow I hope to post a redesigned or refreshed version of the SC diamond logo. At that time I will explain what the logo has come to mean and symbolize to me. See you all tomorrow! ~Sean.
